Sydney Film Festival Review: Love.Love.Love (Russia, 2014)

LoveLoveLove1

Awarded the Special Jury Award winner at the Sundance Film Festival, Love.Love.Love is a charming short documentary film about the notion of love as seen through the eyes of a group of woman ranging from young girls to elderly women.

Love.Love.Love was developed via the Cinetrain initiative, a cinema event that takes place in Russia every 2 years, gathering filmmakers from all over the world to capture Russia on film – by train.

One of the documentaries created was Love.Love.Love, directed by Sandhya Daisy Sundaram, during the January 2013 winter season. It’s an enchanting look at the way Russian women see love, as young girls with crushes on classmates, to women with families and women whose families have long since grown up and started their own families. It’s not always about romantic love, but it’s about the love you feel for anyone you’re close to, how it develops, how it takes you and more importantly, in the context of this documentary, how it changes over time.

It’s a message that travels well beyond the borders of Russia and is immediately relatable for all.
