Thursday

Stephen Fry: Gadget Man, SBS 2, 8 pm AEST

In spite of the title, Stephen Fry does not actually star in this episode. Instead, British comedian Richard Ayoade takes the reigns, leading the viewer on a hilarious crusade to find gadgets to help him conquer Britain’s terrible weather. Bound to be a quirky, ridiculous and perhaps, informative affair.

World’s Richest Dogs, Ch. 7, 9:30 pm AEST

If you’re a fan of dogs and decadence – look no further! Detailing the luxurious lifestyles of these elite pups, this special program will surely leave you in a combined state of shock and envy.

Friday

The Shawshank Redemption, Ch. 9, 8:30 pm AEST

Directed by Frank Darabont and starring fine actors such as Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman, this is a film that really requires no explanation. An uplifting and rewarding piece of cinema that will continue to stand the test of time.

Minority Report, Ten, 8:30 pm AEST

Directed by Steven Spielberg, this sci-fi thriller sees Tom Cruise race against the clock to prove his innocence for a crime he is yet to commit. Prepare to have your mind boggled.

Beetlejuice, GO!, 9:50 pm AEST

Killed in a freak accident, newly wed (and newly dead) couple Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin are denied entry to heaven and forced to take up residency in their old house as poltergeists. Unable to scare away the intolerable owners, they seek the help of a profane and absurdly grotesque fright master – Beetlejuice. A must-see for all Tim Burton fans.

Saturday

Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory, GO!, 7:40 pm AEST

Starring Gene Wilder as the titular character, this celebrated film tells the story of a young boy Charlie, who against all odds, wins the opportunity to tour the wonderful Wonka candy factory. It’s a little wacky in parts, but overall this film is a heartwarming and visually rich slice of 1970s cinema.

Sunday

The Internet’s Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz, ABC 2, 8:32 pm

Released earlier this year, this documentary details the interesting, yet short life of the unsung hero of the internet world, Aaron Swartz who took his own life at age 26. If you’re interested in the ongoing war between the internet and the US Government, this gripping documentary is for you.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall, 7Mate, 9:35 pm

After being unceremoniously dumped by his TV star girlfriend, Sarah Marshall, Peter (Jason Segal) travels to Hawaii to cure his heartbreak – only to run into Sarah and her new boyfriend at the same resort. With priceless cameos from Russell Brand and Paul Rudd, an abundance of one-liners and just the right amount of romance, you’d be a fool to give this Sunday night screening a miss.
