Museum of Sydney to host Movie Club: Sydney Filmmakers series starting 7th Dec 2014

Museum of Sydney, as part of Sydney Living Museums (which looks after a group of 12 of the most important historic houses, gardens and museums), will showcase a number of film events which will kick off before the end of this year, focusing on documentaries both old and new. The concept has been curated by The Festivalists for Sydney Living Museum, to take place on one Sunday morning of each month. Movie Club will screen a new or recent film followed by a discussion featuring the filmmakers and special guests.

Filmings so far confirmed are as follows:

Sunday 7th December35 Letters

An inventive and moving account of a young writer in the last phases of her terminal illness. Awarded Best Australian Documentary at the 2014 Sydney Film Festival. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Janine Hosking.

Sunday 18th JanuaryThe Crossing

A thrilling and spectacular chronicle of two young Australian adventurers’ attempts to trek more than 1000 kms across a remote island in the Arctic. Awarded the Audience Award (Best Documentary) at the 2013 Sydney Film Festival. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker/producer Enzo Tedeschi and adventurer Clark Carter.

Sunday 8th FebruaryLove Marriage In Kabul

Abdul is in love with his neighbour Fatemeh, but can’t afford her father’s demands of a large sum of money. Afghan-Australian Mahboba Rawi flies to Kabul to try to resolve the situation. Winner of the Audience Award (Best Documentary) at the 2014 Sydney Film Festival. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Amin Palangi and producer Pat Fiske.
