We have seen some fairly out-there and outrageous ideas since the modest days of in-your-face reality TV but the one for American couples-therapy show Sex Box just about tops them all. This is a show where a couple has sex in a big neon-blue box on stage, after which they walk straight out, sit on a couch in their silk pajamas and talk about their relationship with a panel of ‘experts’.
It’s an idea based upon a British TV series of the same name, so we can’t be putting all the blame for this idea on the U.S. Though, if American remakes are anything to by, we’re expecting this new version of Sex Box to be the ultimate in addictive trash television.
In theory, it is at least an interesting prospect to put a couple, who likely have a myriad of issues waiting to be explored, in front of antagonistic ‘experts’ – who are tasked with fielding conversations so they make for entertaining television – after sex, since neurochemical changes like high oxytocin levels are well documented when it comes to post-coitus.
