The nominees for the 2015 South Australian Screen Awards have been announced, with a vast amount of South Australian talent recognised in short, feature length, and animated films.

The SASAs are essential in helping young South Australian filmmakers gain attention on a larger national and international scale, and are the state’s highest film honours. Past winners have had their films screened at prestigious festivals around the world, such as the Berlin Film Festival, Sundance, and South By Southwest. There are 17 categories ranging from directing, to cinematography, score and acting. There are close to $40,000 worth of prizes, including one sponsored by the South Australian Film Commission. SAFC Director Annabelle Sheehan said the Corporation was delighted to aid the growth of not only the South Australian film industry, but aiding the exposure and professional development of the people nominated. “SAFC is committed to nurturing the ongoing development of the local screen industry”, Sheehan said. “Congratulations to everyone nominated across all categories.”

The awards are sponsored by the Media Resource Centre, an organisation committed to helping up-and-coming filmmakers during all aspects of the production process. MRC Director Gail Kovatseff stressed the importance of the awards in promoting local talent. “With so much screen content available, the South Australian Screen Awards play an important role in recognising the best new talent in South Australia’s screen industry,” she said. “For more than 15 years the Awards have given the next generation a platform to launch their reputation and careers.”

The winners will be announced at the SASA Gala Awards Night at the Mercury Cinema on Friday, 15 May, and will be hosted by SBS film presenter Sandy George.  A full list of nominees can be found athttp://www.mrc.org.au/watch-it/sasa
