Are you a fan of things that go bump in the night? If so, it’s time to make a date with the Golden Age Cinema in Sydney to see the latest horror flicks that have critics and filmgoers alike jumping in their seats.

It Follows, directed by David Robert Mitchell, is a genre-pushing, atmospheric and hauntingly intense horror film that has been compared to the filmmaking styles of David Lynch, Terrence Malick and Harmony Korine. The film tells the story of Jay (Maika Monroe) who after having sex with her boyfriend Hugh (Jake Weary) learns she is the latest victim of a supernatural curse. The curse takes on the form of any human being, strange or familiar, and only those who have been inflicted can see it. It follows Jay at walking pace, and if it catches her, it will kill her, and then return to pursuing the previous person who passed it on, until it gets right back to the source.

If It Follows doesn’t scare the living daylights out of you, make sure you book tickets to see the unmissable Under The Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson as a man-eating alien stalking the streets of Glasgow. Directed by Jonathan Glazer, the film was heralded as a masterpiece upon its initial release last year, with David Stratton calling it “…one of the most unusual, creepy and gripping sci-fi films in recent memory…a must-see for anyone interested in something genuinely original and different”.

If you’re looking for some laughs with your scares perhaps The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the film for you. The film is a regular at Golden Age, with all ticket holders to the party-cipatory screening provided with a party pack and instructions on how to get involved on the night. So what are you waiting for? Get your costumes on and head to Golden Age for a night of frivolities with your favourite Transylvanian transvestites.

Filmgoers beware; you’re in for a scare.
