International trailer released for Everest, showcasing the all-star cast and the epic mountain

The stories of the mountaineers who climb Everest has long been documented and fictionalised on our screens. From the 1934 documentary short Wings Over Everest to the 1997 tele-movie Into Thin Air, based on the book of the same name, telling the stories of the men who battle the conditions of one of the most dangerous expeditions on earth has always been a compelling one. It’s of little surprise then that the story told in Into Thin Air – that of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster – would be revisited on the big screen. In this case, it will be a big budget, 3D adventure, featuring an all-star cast.

The film brings together the accounts from Into Thin Air as well as the recently released book The Storms, by Mike Trueman, which is said to “complete the story”, and a string of other books about the disaster. Starring the likes of Josh Brolin, Jake Gyllenhaal, Australia’s Sam Worthington and Keira Knightley, the film is being directed by Baltasar Kormákur ((2 Guns, Contraband) and will be released in September. The international trailer for the film has just been released which showcases the epic climb and gives us a taste of what to expect:

Official Synopsis: Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival. The epic adventure stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal.

Everest will be released in Australian cinemas on 17th September 2015.
