10 artists not to miss at Future Music Festival

With a lineup like the incredible one we have in store for us at Future Music Festival, it’s easy to get distracted by the big, shiny lights of the headliners and forget there are other artists on the line-up too. Well, we at the AU have cut through the list of DJs, bands and electronic artists who line the 2014 event and being you ten performances you can’t miss at this year’s event…

Dubfire

Deep Dish fans may expecting something a bit different from Dubfire’s set, but those who have already seen him live know that the DJ/producer will always bring the very best in house and tech with his heavily industrial sound. His recent work with the legendary Underworld places this set as even more of a must-see for those that love their bass deep and their sets consistent. – Chris Singh

Dada Life

This playful duo ensure that they never fully plan one of their sets; so absolutely anything can happen. They love bananas and champagne, have been shut down by SWAT teams, and have even drawn the ire of the Swedish government with their concept of Dada Land. The only thing one can be sure of is that Dada Life will do their very best to ensure none of the day’s other sets party harder than theirs. – Chris Singh

ATB

How can you not want to see one of the very best in the history of trance music? Even if you aren’t usually a fan of the style, ATB will make a convert out of you, just as he did to me a few years ago. Don’t be fooled by the size of ATB’s name on the festival’s posters, this is one of FMF’s biggest draw cards. – Chris Singh

Gesaffelstein

One of the most buzzed about artists on the bill, there are some amazing new and interesting sounds coming from this French Producer. It should be one of the most unique and entertaining performances of the day, if reports from past shows is anything to go by… – John Goodridge

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis

It’s an odd time for these guys to be touring – out of album cycle – so it’s easy to forget they’re on the bill. I love the variety of tunes that they have put together and the way the live performance is as good as the recordings… they are incredible performers. But more than anything, we think that this may be the chance to get a taste of their next album… it’s been a long while since “Thrift Shop”, you know? – John Goodridge

Baauer

Forget “Harlem Shake”… there’s much more to Baauer than that viral smash… his hit song “Higher” was one of my favourites from last year and I’m looking forward to what new music he’s been making, too. – John Goodridge

Timmy Trumpet

First off on the one to check out list would be Sydney’s Timmy Trumpet and his DJ/ trumpet infusions. Having supported Stevie Wonder, and as the name behind the Timmy Trumpet iPhone app (I don’t want to boast but I am kind of awesome at it), Tim’s set should be an entertaining mix of EDM and smooth jazz. – Kat Hunter

Adventure Club

Oh Canada. How I love thee. Well, apart from when you gave us Beiber (shudders). Thankfully, you have made up for Beiber’s blight on music as the home country of Adventure Club. The EDM duo (with pop-punk roots) has not only remixed Brand New’s ‘Daisy’ (which would make me love them even without their talent) but they also donate to Fuck Cancer. Talented and nice. Aww. – Kat Hunter

Will Sparks

Last but certainly not least to check out would be Melbourne’s Will Sparks, the wonder kid from Melbourne who skyrocketed to fame over the last year with Ah Yeah!. Sparks will be sharing the ‘Melbourne Sound’ with the likes of us northerners and, based on the hype he’s been generating; it will be a set not to be missed. – Kat Hunter

Maya Jane Cole

With tracks like “Everything” exploding online in the last year, this accomplished producer and DJ is sadly one of the few women to represent the scene on the bill. But as one of the finest going at the moment, she’ll be one of the highlights for many. Would love to see her delve into her back catalogue and bring us tracks like “What They Say”… but whatever she brings us we’re guaranteed a party… – Larry Heath
