Thanks to the revival of Queer Eye and the soon to land Season 2 we are all living for more of that wholesome positivity. And there is no doubt that we could all do with a little more self-care and self-love.
The Fab 5 will be touching down in Australia this week to promote the next season so for those who can’t get enough Queer Eye we did a dive into some of Netflix’s other shows that if you’re a fan of Queer Eye we think you’ll love. We tried to pick titles that either matched each of the guys’ specialties or their personalities, check ‘em out below.
Antoni + Food = Nailed It
Antoni is the champion of healthy food but also tries to come up with meal ideas that will play to the person’s strengths or tastes. He also encourages the participants to work at making food that’s presentable. Though let’s all be real here, presentation is probably the least of our culinary concerns. Nailed It is all about amateur bakers trying to recreate some visually stunning and complicated cakes confectionery and pastries. You’re pretty much guaranteed that none of the contestants are going to be able to match the desired outcome, so it’s a great confidence boost for the rest of us to see just how terrible the outcomes are. I guess so long as it tastes good right?
Bobby + Design & Redecorating = Terrace House
Bobby is a wizard in designing and redecorating a home so that it’s practical and functional. He also comes up with unique ways in which to keep a home tidy and neat. Terrace House is like Japanese Big Brother, where 6 complete strangers are all living together under the one roof. It’s not exactly about design or renovation but you can learn a lot about aesthetics and style by watching this show and the gorgeous houses the participants are living in. Japanese interior design is often clean, with simple lines and practical furnishings.
Karamo + Culture = Sense8
Karamo is all about culture, and interacting with your fellow humans. He helps us to gain that little bit of extra confidence to bring out our best selves by better understanding those around us. Sense8 has a unique, LGBTIQ friendly and racially diverse range of characters coming from a variety of walks of life and they discover they have a unique psychic connection to each other. They will have to work together and accept each other’s differences in order to survive. Even though we may not be psychic, we can all learn to be a little more tolerant and accepting of those that are different in our everyday lives.
Tan + Fashion = Project Runway
Tan is all about fashion and looking your best, not just for your own confidence, but dressing for your friends and family too. It’s also important to dress comfortably but also take note of trends and style that isn’t dated. Project Runway has its contestants design and create outfits often using non-traditional materials as well as instill their own personal design aesthetic. If you want to see some remarkable outfits and get some inspiration for your next get up check it out.
Jonathan + Grooming = Glow
Jonathan is the most extra of all the Fab 5 and he is all about grooming, so not just hairstyles but facial hair and skincare. We all know that looking our best on the outside will often help us feel more confident on the inside. There’s no denying that a compliment on when we look good will bring a smile to our face. Finding the right show for Jonathan was a little tricky but we went with Glow. Glow stands for “Glorious Ladies Of Wrestling” and even though it’s not all about grooming, seeing these ladies get ready for their matches is a masterclass in how to get glammed up. Not to mention “grooming” yourself into being a fierce warrior woman in the wrestling ring. Also, this show is probably about as extra as Jonathan’s personality and we love that.
