Throughout the last week, the Australian Film Institute and Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AFI | AACTA) have been making waves with their online short film competition #SocialShorts. In its fourth year, the competition is aimed at given unknown filmmakers exposure within the wider Australian film industry. And with 65 film competing it has provided no expense at opportunity and enjoyment for those in the filmic community.
The films have also been graced with some renowned talent in front of the camera. With the likes of Guy Pearce, David Gulpili and Shane Jacobson making appearances in various short films, respectively. The competition is currently in its second week with another week remaining,
The CEO for AFI / AACTA Damian Trewhella has lauded the opportunities that the filmmakers that work within #SocialShorts have been granted. He elaborated when examining the topic in its press release.
“Our film industry is full of talented filmmakers producing great short films and with a record breaking 65 short films participating in #SocialShorts this year it’s great to see this space growing. Short films so often serve as calling cards and stepping stones for our brightest emerging filmmakers and #SocialShorts plays an important role in promoting and nurturing this emerging film talent by providing a platform for filmmakers to have their work seen, shared and acknowledged by the industry and the wider audience.”
