Global retailer Amazon has unveiled the newest model of their Kindle e-Reader line. Called Kindle Oasis, the new e-reader is packed with features and an updated Paperwhite display, but it also comes with a hefty price tag.
Touted in the press release as being “thinnest and lightest Kindle ever,” the Kindle Oasis joins stablemates Kindle, Paperwhite and Voyage, becoming Amazon’s top-tier e-reader device. Weighing just 131 grams, the device is also “3.4mm at its thinnest point.”
In terms of features, in addition to a new 300ppi Paperwhite display, many of the same features Kindle users have come to expect are built in. Kindle Oasis features a dual-battery system — one housed within the device itself and another housed within its cover accessory, both of which can be charged at the same time and both of which will keep the device running for weeks on end from a single charge.
The device also comes with cloud storage for all of your e-books, connectivity with sites like GoodReads to help you pick what to read next and a hassle-free set up. Sounds good, right? How much should you expect to pay for one of these bad boys?
It’s fine, take all the time you need to process that.
If you would like to purchase one of these (admittedly very nice) e-readers, it will set you back the better part of five hundred clams. There aren’t many people who are willing to pony up that much for an iPad so I certainly hope Amazon have something more up their sleeve for the Oasis. At that price point, it will be a tough sell indeed.
