Looks like audiences are down for creepy possessed dolls! In its debut weekend in cinemas, Annabelle: Creation, the prequel to the Annabelle storyline from 2014, shot straight to no. 1 and earned $2.28m in the process. It generated a screen average of $9,903 across its 231 screens nationally.
Annabelle: Creation beat out last week’s no. 1 to push it to 2nd place this week. This week, Dunkirk earned $1.72m and has made $19m since its release almost a month ago. It remains on 337 screens nationally.

Another strong debut was made by Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets. Earning $1.25m, it pushed last week’s no. 3, Atomic Blonde out of the top 3. It only made a screen average of $2,908, despite it opening on 433 screens nationally. Elizabeth Debicki (The Kettering Incident, The Night Manager) also stars.
Last week’s no.2 film, War For The Planet Of The Apes, helped cause the movements in the top 5 films, where it now sits at no. 4 this week, earning $1.05m. After 3 weeks in cinemas, it has made $8.86m.
Atomic Blonde debuted strongly last week at no. 3, but has dropped this week to no. 5, earning $900k. It’s screen average is $2,789, and may continue to fall down the ladder in the coming weeks.
Next week should see an appearance from Logan Lucky (Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Daniel Craig) on the box office report.
