Australian Box Office Report: Annabelle: Creation still thrills audience in its 2nd week in cinemas

Audiences are still into creepy dead-eyed children’s toys, so Annabelle: Creation stays in the no.1  spot for the 2nd week in a row.  Earning $1.52m this week, it has also made $4.58m since its theatrical debut in theatres.

New to the box office this week is the Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba sci-fi The Dark Tower.  Based on the Stephen King series of novels of the same name, it debuted at no. 2 and made $1.33m in the process.

Whilst not a strong week at the box office, Dunkirk is still doing relatively well, this week earning $1.10m.  It dropped one place to no. 3 (from no. 2 last week), but has made $20.69m since its debut 5 weeks ago.

Another newcomer to the screen this week was Logan Lucky.  It debuted at no. 4 this week and earned  $914k.  Big names (from director Steven Soderbergh, to stars Daniel Craig, Channing Tatum and Adam Driver) weren’t enough to get this into the top 3, but it did push previous 3rd placer War For The Planet Of The Apes out of the top 5 (down to 7th place).

Also new, and also pushing a film with star power out of the top 5, was Hampstead.  It debuted at no. 5 and earned $738k in the process.  It’s Mad Eye Moody (Brendan Gleeson) falling in love with Diane Keaton, basically.  It knocked last week’s 5th place film, Atomic Blonde, to no. 9 this week.
