This week, Gru and his minions beat out Wonder Woman and her Lasso of Truth, as new release Despicable Me 3 takes the lead and premieres at no. 1, earning $5.89m in the process.

Wonder Woman dropped to no. 2, but not without earning $3.35m in the process.  It’s now made over $20m nationally since debuting a fortnight ago.

Another debut to the Box Office Report, the Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyez On Me, also did fairly well, premiering in no. 3 despite fairly average reviews and earning  $1.73m.  Opening on just 164 screens nationwide, it managed to push last week’s no. 3, Baywatch, out of top 5 ranking.

Last week’s no. 2, The Mummy, dropped significantly to no. 4 this week.  Generating $1.66m in ticket sales, earnings actually fell by 64%, and is currently on 364 screens nationwide (a decrease of 107 screens previously).

Rough Night, another new film that opening this week, premiered at no. 5 and earned $1.56m.  Whilst it’s a great feat to be in the top 5 in its premiere week, it opened on 345 screens nationwide and logistically could have performed better  – so the results do come as some surprise; with reviews on the “better than average” scale, you might expect it to stick around for a while yet. It features Kate McKinnon as Aussie party animal (“Pippa”, naturally), and took the no. 5 spot from My Cousin Rachel.

Strong results from 3 debuting films this week meant that Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, My Cousin Rachel and Baywatch have been shunted out of the top 5.  Pirates sits at no. 7; My Cousin Rachel at no. 8 and Baywatch at no. 6.

Next week, we should see a sighting of Cars 3, Transformers: The Last Knight and Una in the top 10 somewhere.
