Australian Box Office Report: Jurassic Park is king once again with Jurassic World

JWSuperBowlTrailer-Raptors1

What a year! The constant shuffle at the top continues but hey, this one was always bound to happen. It was 22 years ago when Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park became a financial and critical success.  And now with new director Colin Trevorrow and star Chris Pratt, the franchise has done it again with Jurassic World. Earning over $16 million in its opening weekend (check out our rundown of its record breaking opening here), the dinosaur actioneer has pushed out the glitz and glamour of Entourage which sits at number 2 with $1.2 million.

Melissa McCarthy’s Spy sticks around at 3rd spot making just over $1 million while “The Rock’s” disaster flick San Andreas drops to 4th spot, perhaps an indication that its initial “big dumb fun” novelty is wearing off.
Previous top runners Mad Max: Fury Road and Pitch Perfect 2 are still hanging around at 5th and 9th spot respectively and Tomorrowland rounds out the top 10, officially signifying Age of Ultron’s exit from the proceedings. Though what a run it had.

School holidays are coming up and that means it’s time for a couple of family films to shake things up. Everyone loves some minions and their first solo venture, er, Minions opens along side the always reliable Disney/Pixar studio as they release Inside Out, which is expected to take out the number one spot next weekend. But it will be a close race to the top.
