The all-female reboot of Ghostbusters spent one week at the top, with Star Trek: Beyond taking the throne this week.
Beyond had the lowest opening of the trilogy domestically, but that didn’t stop it from taking its place on top. The third film in the rebooted series earned AU$4 million dollars in its opening weekend here, knocking Ghostbusters to second spot with a reasonable AU$2.4 million.
The Legend of Tarzan sticks around in third spot with AU$1.2 million but was almost overtaken by Lights Out. The horror film made an impressive AU$1.1 million in its debut week.
DC animated movies don’t usually release theatrically but with the seminal nature of Batman: The Killing Joke, it was bound to start somewhere. The Alan Moore adaptation earned almost half a million dollars in Australia and currently sits at third spot in the States having earned over $3 million dollars in its one day release.
