Australian Box Office Report: The talking teddy bear is unable to stop the dinosaurs

Foul mouthed teddy bears are no match for towering dinosaurs it would seem as Ted 2 comes up short in its opening week.
While Seth Macfarlane and Mark Wahlberg’s comedy sequel earned itself $4.2 million over the weekend, it was unable to knock the box office king off its perch. Jurassic World spent its 3rd weekend at number 1, raking in another lazy $5.1 million, helping bringing its total international gross to $1,252,399,254.

Yes. That’s over ONE BILLION DOLLARS. And it’s grossed that much faster than any film in history. It also passed the $500 million mark in the US this week, also setting a new record there. Expect those record breaking numbers to continue – at least until Star Wars comes to visit at year’s end.

Meanwhile, families are still flocking to cinemas to see Minions and Inside Out which sit at 3rd and 4th spot, pulling in $3.9 million and $3.2 million respectively.

The top 10 is rounded out by some dwindling titles, Far From the Maddening and Indian film Sardaarji have made a bold surge into the fold at 6th and 7th spot. The numbers are below. You’ll also notice how sweet things are for Universal at the top of that pile:

# Film Title Distributor Box Office
1 JURASSIC WORLD UNIVERSAL $5,138,426
2 TED 2 UNIVERSAL $4,279,528
3 MINIONS UNIVERSAL $3,935,378
4 INSIDE OUT WALT DISNEY $3,215,968
5 FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD FOX $606,815
6 SARDAARJI FRIENDS INDIA $353,385
7 SPY FOX $351,323
8 WOMAN IN GOLD ROADSHOW $200,985
9 ENTOURAGE WARNER BROS $186,496
10 MAD MAX: FURY ROAD ROADSHOW $181,467

Terminator Genisys is out now but it has yet to reach the Box Office. Rest assured however that in its first weekend, it will undoubtedly take top spot. Terminator has always been a Box Office mainstay, come hell or high water (or bad review) so check The Iris’ report next week for a run down of its impact.
