Australian Box Office Review: The Secret Life of Pets pounce their way to the top spot

Following its success in the US earlier this year, it was an amazing opending week for animated feature The Secret Life of Pets, as it took the top spot at the Australian box office.  Claiming $1.93 million at the box office, it’s taken the spotlight away from last week’s box office no. 1, Bad Moms, still at $1.29 million this week, impressive considering it’s been released for 4 weeks.

Also new this week, and juse scraping into second position on the box office table is horror film Don’t Breathe, taking $1.29 million.

Suicide Squad continues to tumble down the ladder, from no. 2 last week to no. 4 this week, taking $1.14 million at the box office.  It’s now brought in $32.10 million in Australian cinemas.

The final new entry to the top 10 table is sci-fi/mystery/crime/whatever film Nerve, starring Emma Roberts and Dave Franco.  We’ve previously described it as, “a fresh take on the current state of technological advancement and social networking“.  It’s taken $1 million at the box office this week, and sits at number fI’ve, ahead of Jason Bourne. Elsewhere, Sausage Party continues to perform strongly in seventh, while War Dogs seems to lack staying power, in spite of solid reviews, dropping to ninth position.
