Australian Box Office Report: Fear and fright win the week as IT floats over the competition

After some pretty dismal weeks in earnings at the box office, cinemas nationwide are welcoming this week’s no. 1 film, the remake of Stephen King’s classic novel (and reason why so many kids in the 80s hated clowns), It.  Opening on  548 screens nationally, it made a phenomenal $7.46m in its opening weekend, and was the biggest opening weekend ever for a horror movie.  In comparison, Annabelle: Creation was no. 1 for 2 weeks in August, and has, to date, made $7.06m.  ... Australian Box Office Report: It’s war as Apes edges out Dunkirk

Whilst not opening to as much as last week’s no. 1 film, War For The Planet Of The Apes, the third in the franchise, managed to wipe out last week’s top flick in only its 2nd week in cinemas. Australian Box Office Report: WWII epic Dunkirk tops box office this week

Director Christopher Nolan’s eagerly awaited WWII epic, Dunkirk, shot to the top of the box office charts in its debut week.  It earned $6.0m, and got rave reviews from our reviewer.  It’s currently screening across 292 theatres nationally, including six 70mm screens and 1 IMAX screen, where it grossed $234k and $180k, respectively.  Dunkirk takes over the top spot this week from Spider-Man: Homecoming... Australian Box Office Report: Spider-Man: Homecoming sticks to the top of the chart

It’s been a good fortnight for Spider-Man: Homecoming.  Debuting in cinemas last week, it remains at the top of the box office ladder for the 2nd week in a row.  This week it has posted $4.92m in earnings.  Although it’s about half of what it opened with last week (a little over $10m), it still screened at more than 600 theatres nationally, and managed a screen average of nearly $8,000. ...
