Sony Computer Entertainment Australia will today begin an auction on a rare, 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 console. The console is signed by the top ‘dogs’ at Naughty Dog and the proceeds will go to Sony’s You Can youth cancer charity. Better yet, if you’re feeling flush with cash today — anyone can bid on it.
The auction will go live today (Friday, March 18) on eBay from 2pm AEDT (that’s 1pm in Queensland and 11am in WA) and will run until 2pm AEDT Wednesday, March 23.
There were only 150 of these consoles released into Australia from a total of 12,300 released worldwide so when they say “limited edition” and “collector’s item”, they mean it. Each 20th Anniversary console was made in the style of the original PlayStation console, featuring the same grey finish, classic PS logo and engraved, numbered plate. This signed console also comes with a certificate of authenticity to verify the signatures.
The console up for grabs bears the signatures of Naughty Dog co-presidents Christophe Balestra and Evan Wells, creative director Neil Druckmann (The Last of Us, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End) and game director Bruce Straley (The Last of Us, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End).
The auction will close at this year’s River4Ward fundraising event in Melbourne, among musical acts Jessica Mauboy, Cyrus and Daryl Braithwaite.
Australia’s third You Can centre is currently under construction at the new Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Melbourne and is set to open in July.
