Cranston, Paul and Gunn take home trophies as Breaking Bad dominates the Primetime Emmy Awards for the last time

The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards took place today is Los Angeles, and they were overall a relatively predictable affair. Breaking Bad was the big winner for the night, with stars Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn all taking home awards for their phenomenal work in the final season of the show. Voters just couldn’t pass up their last chance to honour the stellar work of the entire Breaking Bad team, with the show also taking home the prestigious Best Drama Series award.

Voters had their chance to make a big statement tonight by crowning Orange is the New Black as Best Comedy Series, but they did not. Instead, they gave it to Modern Family for the fifth year in a row. This is getting ridiculous, as  Modern Family is nowhere near being the best comedy series on tv right now. Orange is really more of a drama series anyway, but it was still the most deserving of the nominees. Maybe next year!

The acting awards were mostly given to previous winners, with Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jim Parsons, Julianna Margulies, Alison Janney, Ty Burrell and Jessica Lange all adding another Emmy to their previous collection of statues. While many of those actors are deserving of their awards, it would have been nice to see some new blood take an award or two.
