Film adaptation of The Division lands Syriana, Gold director

Ubisoft Motion Pictures has announced a surprising get for the upcoming film adaptation of 2016 online shooter The Division: Syriana writer/director Stephen Gaghan.

Gaghan’s film resume is a short but decorated one. His writing credits include The Alamo, AbandonRules of Engagement. He won an Academy Award for his Traffic screenplay. He was nominated for his Syriana screenplay, which he also directed. His latest film, Gold, releases this week. Gaghan will join previously announced stars Jake Gyllanhaal and Jessica Chastain and will both write and direct the film.

Gaghan himself is no stranger to video game writing either, having written Call of Duty: Ghosts for Activision.

Tom Clancy’s The Division released in 2016 after years of delays to generally positive reviews, including our own which you can read here.

The news comes only days after Ubisoft scored another significant film get, releasing a short for their upcoming game Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wild Lands by legendary action director John McTiernan (Die HardPredatorThe Hunt for Red October), his first new work in 14 years.
