Fire up the way back machine, the C64 Mini arrives in Aus on March 29

Old school gamers are living something of a beautiful renaissance right now. Nintendo’s successful launch of its NES and SNES Classic Mini consoles has led to a rush of other miniaturised platforms appearing on the market, one of the more interesting of which is the C64 Mini. Good news, its now got a release date.

A miniature version of the classic Commodore 64 computer system, the C64 Mini does everything your 35-year-old war horse used to do, short of take inch floppy disks.

Look at it. It’s beautiful. That’s a tiny C64 keyboard that connects to your TV via HDMI. It also sports a pair of USB ports so you can plug in the accompanying joystick (!!!) or a larger keyboard if you find the little keys too small to use.

The system comes with 64 pre-installed games including Speedball 2, California Games and Boulder Dash and, because I know there’s a bunch of you wondering, yeah, you can even program your own new games on it. The system also offers the SNES Mini-style ability to save your game at any time.
