FOX in talks to bring back The X-Files with original cast

Good news for Mulder and Scully fans – there may be a possibility of a revival of the science-fiction drama, The X-Files. The series, which starred David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI special agents with a penchant for the paranormal, ran for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002.

According to Entertainment Weekly, CEO Gary Newman stated that “we’ve had some conversations on X-Files… we’re hopeful of being able to bring that back at some point.”

If the series goes ahead, it will be with original stars Duchovny and Anderson. However that seems to be the root of contention, with problems arising due to the busy career of both of the stars. Duchovny is currently busy with the drama Aquarius, whilst Anderson is starring in The Fall and Hannibal. When asked about her thoughts on a limited TV series, Anderson explained that she needed to “wrap my brain around what that would entail”. She continued, stating that “I live in London. I’ve got three kids, it’s not a small proposition and it would take a lot longer to shoot than a movie would. I need to think about that.

It will more than likely be a while until we hear any confirmation, but fingers crossed. I want to believe.
