Horrible Bosses was a huge surprise when it was released in 2011. The film came out of nowhere and ended up being one of the funniest films in recent years, due largely to its creative and somewhat dark premise: what if three friends decided to kill each others bosses? The film was a hit critically and commercially, with the highlight of the film being the brilliant comedic chemistry between the three leads – Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day. The film also succeeded in the spot-on casting of the three villainous bosses, with Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, and particularly Jennifer Aniston relishing the chance to play over the top psychopaths.
Due to the success of the original, Horrible Bosses 2 is on its way this year, and the first teaser trailer for the film was released today. The trailer is a brilliant way to start selling the film; it reminds us of the chemistry of the three leads and shows us that Spacey and Aniston are thankfully back for round two. The sequel also adds Chris Pine and Christoph Waltz to the cast. Comedy sequels are tough to pull off, but Horrible Bosses 2 has a damn good chance at being a huge success. Let’s hope the film turns out to be more of a 22 Jump Street than a Hangover 2.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Fed up with answering to higher-ups, Nick (Bateman), Dale (Day) and Kurt (Sudeikis) decide to become their own bosses by launching their own business but a slick investor (Waltz) soon pulls the rug out from under them. Outplayed and desperate, and with no legal recourse, the three would-be entrepreneurs hatch a misguided plan to kidnap the investor’s adult son (Pine) and ransom him to regain control of their company.
