One of the biggest and best-received esports events ever hosted in Australia, the Intel Extreme Masters, is heading back to Sydney for three days in May, bringing more explosive top-tier Counter-Strike play.
The longest-running pro esports competition in the world, the Intel Extreme Masters will be bringing sixteen of the world’s best Counter-Strike: Global Offensive teams to Australian shores to compete for a prize pool of $250,000 USD (that’s about $300,000 AUD).
Last year’s event drew crowds of over 7000 punters and huge media interest with its slick arena setting, finally and definitively highlighting the growing interest around esports in Australia. It shouldn’t be surprising that we’re keen on esports — we’re Australian. If there’s a competition afoot, our blood demands we get around it.
This year promises to host even more sideshow events and signings for fans get up close and personal with their favourite teams and players outside of the main event stage.
The Intel Extreme Masters goes off May 4-6, 2018 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney.
