Over the last couple of years, screenwriter Taylor Sheridan has quickly established himself as one of the most exciting voices in cinema.
His debut screenplay Sicario brought critical reverence with the harrowing cartel drama, for many, considered one of the best films of 2015. Only to go one better the following year with the immense success of Hell Or High Water which garnered a Best Picture nomination amongst a plethora of other honours. Wind River serves as Sheridan’s directorial debut and what he believes to be the final chapter to his American Frontier trilogy. And if the trailer is anything to go by, the film appears to be another must-see from this beguiling talent.
Headlined by Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen, the thriller concerns the team-up of an FBI agent and a veteran game tracker as they aim to unravel a murder that occurred in a Native American Reservation. With partial resemblance to both True Detective and The Frozen Ground, this debut trailer imbues the film with no shortage of intensity. Appearing suspenseful, haunting and in typical Sheridan fashion, no-nonsense, Wind River looks absolutely terrific.
Having previously played at both Sundance and Cannes to favourable reviews, Wind River comes with a lot of anticipation and the trailer only tends to increase that excitement. The film also stars Jon Bernthal, Gil Birmingham, Graham Greene and Julia Jones. Here is the official synopsis:
WIND RIVER is a chilling thriller that follows a rookie FBI agent who teams up with a local game tracker with deep community ties and a haunted past to investigate the murder of a local girl on a remote Native American Reservation in the hopes of solving the mysterious death.
Wind River is set for its Australian premiere at the upcoming Sydney Film Festival. The film will then be released nationwide on August 10th. Check out the new trailer below.
