Where playing a single Lynch role would be enough to stretch any thespian to the point of madness, John Malkovich has decided to take on seven. Granted, they won’t be unfamiliar roles.
Malkovich will team with Sandro Miller to create a lasting pastiche of the Twin Peaks’ Log Lady, Blue Velvet’s Frank Booth, Eraserhead’s the Lady in the Radiator and Henry Spencer, John Merrick from The Elephant Man and the Mystery Man of Lost Highway.
Lynch and Malkovich are reprising some of the better characters from the Lynch oeuvre in support of the David Lynch Foundation. Prospective audiences will need to arrive at http://www.playinglynch.com/ where they can donate to one of the three available thresholds, of which all will include a copy of The Music of David Lynch.
When speaking on John Malkovich, director Sandro Miller told The Wall Street Journal “We would have the actual scenes playing over and over on a TV set and he could watch it … he would be saying his lines, moving his mouth and his nose – it’s like watching this clay ball morph into something real.”
David Lynch has been working on the Twin Peaks reboot, heading to screens in 2017, as well working on his Festival of Disruption, a music festival heading to Los Angeles in October.
The project will consist of vignettes of the aforementioned characters, with a new character to be portrayed each day for the next seven days. Fans can make the most of the short trailer (below) to get a feel of how the pairing between two of cinema’s true bohemians will unfold.
