In the lead up to the release of Vampyr, the team at DONTNOD have been revealing the creative process behind the game through an episodic web series, covering everything from the architecture, history and mythology.
The first episode, ‘Making Monsters’ explored the London setting, as well as the influence of the Spanish Flu epidemic and how it impacts the journey of protagonist Johnathan Reid, a doctor who unwillingly becomes a vampire.
Each episode is fascinating, revealing a piece of Vampyr’s intriguing creation, and the newest instalment, ‘Architects of the Obscure’ has been released today, unveiling exclusive gameplay footage and the influences behind the music and visuals of the game.
The latest episode charts the four main districts featured in Vampyr, each with their own distinct style. While Whitechapel and the Docks are ravaged by poverty and crime, the denizens of West End enjoy a prosperous and wealthy lifestyle.
‘Architects of the Obscure’ also reveals how Olivier Deriviere uses these settings to compose unique atmospheres, as well as portray the inner conflict Jonathan faces as a reluctant vampire. To learn more about his process, check out the episode below:
