Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn to lead the charge in Gotham City Sirens

If like me, you were a fan of Harley Quinn and in particular Margot Robbie’s portrayal of her in Suicide Squad earlier this year. Then get excited because she will be reprising that character for a newly announced DC film showcasing the top female villains.

Gotham City Sirens will be DC’s attempt at flipping the genders on Suicide Squad and pulling together all the best known Gotham lady villains into the one film. Of course lifting its concept from the comic series of the same name which included such iconic characters as Catwoman, and Poison Ivy.

Returning to the director helm is David Ayer who also steered Suicide Squad. He will also be producing the film, as will Robbie. Whilst Geneva Robertson-Dworet, who also penned scripts for the Tomb Raider remake has been tasked as the writer.

Suicide Squad received some mixed reviews and suffered a little with reshooots, but ended up grossing $745.6 million globally, In light of that they are also working on a sequel, and possibly a spin-off for the character of Deadshot who was played by Will Smith.

With this announcement comic book fans, as well as movie fans can hopefully see Harley portrayed in an environment free of her connection to The Joker. One of the best things about Quinn’s role in Suicide Squad was how strong and proactive she was to get the job done. Getting to see her go against or team up with her fellow villanesses will be interesting and hopefully provide her with an opportunity to showcase more of her twisted personality.

Warner Bros is yet to confirm a release date but has reportedly fast tracked the project.
Let the casting speculation for the other characters commence!
