One of Melbourne’s most iconic arthouse cinemas is set to celebrate 30 years of business, with a throwback to iconic arthouse films from last three decades set to screen next month.
First opened in 1987 in the hub of Collins St, The Kino quickly became Melbourne’s prime spot for international and domestic feature films, from art house indies to popcorn blockbusters.
Kino’s Birthday screenings will include films such as the groundbreaking queer-comedy drama My Beautiful Laundrette, Brooklyn-based drama Do The Right Thing and Mexican film Like Water for Chocolate. Tickets will be sold for $6 at 1987 prices, with classic $3 choc-tops and $1 popcorn, as well as free authentic vintage film posters.
Kino’s 30th Birthday Celebrations will run from Friday 23 – Sunday 25 June.
