Surely locking in the “Best Cosplay” Award at San Diego Comic-Con this year, actor Michael Rooker showed up with the event totally dressed up as his Guardians of the Galaxy character Yondu for a surprise panel on the film, whose sequel recently wrapped production. Just about the entire cast was on hand for the panel, which gave guests a sneak peak at the film – footage of which has not been made available to the public. Cinema Blend is reporting that the footage was “weird and hilarious”, while it was also confirmed that Kurt Russell would be playing Star-Lord’s father, Ego.
Sylvester Stallone also made an appearance in the clip, according to Cinema Blend, and will feature in the film in a minor though integral role. They also debuted a new title treatment for the film, which features the new Marvel Studios logo.
As part of the panel, they also announced that the Guardians franchise will be receiving its first theme park attraction, with the Tower of Terror at Disney’s California Adventure set to be transformed into the new ride Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout! in Summer 2017. It will be the first Marvel focused ride to debut at an American Disney park since Disney purchased the brand. An Iron Man ride is also coming to Hong Kong Disneyland later this year. An artist’s impression of the ride is below.
Chris Pratt (Peter Quill), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Michael Rooker (Yondu) and new additions Kurt Russell (Ego), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Elizabeth Debicki (Ayesha) alongside director James Gunn were all on hand for the panel.
