Netflix announces new TV series based on The Witcher

Netflix have signed on to develop and produce a brand new television series based on The Witcher Saga novels by Andrzej Sapkowski that went on to inspire CD Project Red’s series of wildly popular action RPG’s.

Sapkowski, fresh from absolutely thrashing the video games based upon his work, has announced the new television series via a press release. “I’m thrilled,” he says in the prepared statement, “that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.”

The press release goes on to state that Tomas Baginski, the man who directed the introduction videos for each of the three Witcher games and CD Projekt’s Cyberpunk 2077 teaser is set to direct at least a single episode of each season.

Also signing on are Sean Daniel and Jason Brown, exective producers of the excellent sci fi series The Expanse, who will serve as exective producers on The Witcher, stating “The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world. The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”

The series will be produced by Polish production and VFX house Platige Image. As of press time, there is no information on casting, writers, directors or potential release dates.
