Overwatch open beta starts May 6, launch date set for May 24

For everyone who still hasn’t gotten a key for the closed beta of Blizzard’s upcoming team shooter Overwatch, you can relax. Blizzard have announced this morning that the game will enter a very short open beta period in early May before launching on May 24.

The open beta period will run from May 6 to May 10 (or just enough time to get you frothing for more) before forcing you to wait two weeks for the full game to drop.

The game features a huge roster of 21 diverse heroes along with a number of maps and game types that should appeal to those whose obsession with games like Team Fortress 2 burns eternal. The recent closed beta added the Control game type as well as hero tweaks, balances and the much-vaunted new XP system that drops loot boxes full of goodies every time you level up.

Not only is Overwatch the first time Blizzard have ever made an FPS, it’s their first time ever launching a game across three platforms simultaneously. When it launches, Overwatch will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
