The most popular game in the world, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, is coming to Xbox One. This we’ve known since E3 earlier this year. What we haven’t known was when. Now we have an answer, and it’s way sooner than you were expecting.
December 12. A mere six weeks is all that stands between Xbox One players and being able to vie for the coveted Chicken Dinner. As far as we can tell, the game will ship with the V1.0 update that is set to drop in December. This means Xbox players will have the mantling and vaulting mechanics that PC players have been waiting for right from the jump. It will not, however, include the new Desert map which is set to drop soon for the PC version.
The console version of the game is, for the time being at least, an Xbox One exclusive. How long Xbox will hold onto that exclusivity is still a matter of opinion, with the notion of a PlayStation 4 version still being bandied about, mostly by eager fans and click-hungry news outlets.
Xbox’s insistence on referring to PUBG as an “exclusive” and their reluctance to explain exactly what that meant has only raised further questions.
Will the game be able to capture hearts and minds on console the way it has on PC? Will it be the streamer hit that Xbox’s Mixer program really needs? We’ll find out starting December 12.
