PAX EAST 2016: Gearbox teases Borderlands 3, suggests new series title

During today’s Gearbox Software panel at PAX East in Boston, CEO Randy Pitchford dropped a few nuggets of information about the next game in the Borderlands franchise. “Obviously, there’s going to be another Borderlands,” he said, before suggesting punters reduce their attachment to the name. “We don’t even know if we’re going to call it that.”

Also confirmed during the panel, several key Gearbox staffers are hard at work on the-game-that-will-be-Borderlands-3Battleborn art director Scott Kester will continue that roll on the new Borderlands title, while Gearbox chief creative champion Mikey Neumann — best known as the writer of Gearbox’s Brothers in Arms titles and as the voice of Claptrap — will writing the new game.

Pitchford also took time out of the panel to tease some of Battleborn‘s forth-coming DLC, telling the crowd that it will hold a number of reference to Borderlands 3 and that they should “look deeply” at the DLC for more information.

Gearbox originally announced Borderlands 3 in January last year and publisher Take-Two went on to say that it was being developed for next-gen consoles (and PC, presumably).

The series has racked up three mainline games since 2009, with the last being Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, developed by the now-defunct and sorely missed 2K Australia.
