Pixar to deliver new Cars in place of new Toy Story in 2017; Confirms Incredibles 2 for 2019

The New York Comic-Con is happening as we speak, and with it are a slew of reveals and announcements. In Pixar’s case, however, we may file this one under “Updates”. For the first time since the D23 Expo earlier this year, Pixar have updated their run sheet of US release dates through to June 2020.

The big news is that Cars 3 will arrive in U.S. theaters on June 16th, 2017, followed by Toy Story 4 on June 15th, 2018. The original release schedule saw Toy Story in the 2017 date, meaning that one film has progressed in development substantially faster than the other one. Pixar are known for making content and story changes right through the development process, and this isn’t the first time they’ve done this. Their soon-to-be-released film The Good Dinosaur, for instance, was delayed over some 18 months from its original release date. They’d rather make a film great than hit the expected date – and when each of your films makes a billion dollars, you certainly have that luxury!

A bit more about the plot of the new Toy Story was revealed back in August, with the gang on a quest to find a missing Bo Peep. This in mind, maybe they moved it forward simply due to a plot similarity to Finding Dory?

Meanwhile, The Incredibles 2 is now pushing for a release date on June 21st, 2019 – having previously been listed as “TBA”.

As for the rest of their upcoming roster, Finding Dory remains set for June 2016 and Coco for 22nd November 2017. Yes, that’s right, as it currently stands we’ll be seeing five Pixar films in a three year period. And though no details have yet been announced, two additional Untitled Pixar films have been set for 13th March and 19th June, 2020. March is a peculiar time for a Pixar film – so we’ll be interested to see what comes there. A Bugs Life 2, attack of the Easter Bunny, perhaps?
