PSX16: Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite coming in 2017

The fourth mainline entry in the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise will arrive in 2017. The trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite debuted during the PlayStation Experience showcase. The trailer features Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Ryu and Megaman beating the absolute hell out of each other and we are ridiculously hype for it.

While the trailer itself features no gameplay to speak of, fans will be able to see the game in action during the Capcom Cup tournament this very weekend.

Capcom have confirmed that the game will also feature 2v2 fights, which is a step away from the now-traditional 3v3 match ups of previous installments. In addition, Capcom says fans can expect a cinematic story mode along with “a variety of accessible single player modes, including Training, Mission and Arcade modes.” I mean, you’d want your training mode to be accessible, so that’s good, we suppose.

The “Infinite” in the title alludes to Marvel’s now-well-known Infinity Stones, confirming the greater connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Here’s the full quote from the PlayStation Blog:

Infinite Power: Pulled from classic Marvel lore, unique and game-changing Infinity Stones can be implemented into players’ strategies as a way to influence the outcome of battle. Each Infinity Stone provides a unique advantage to the player and represents a different aspect of the universe: power, space, time, reality, soul, and mind.

Additionally, for those still bummed about the lack of MvC on PS4, grumble no longer: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is now available on the PlayStation Store.

No confirmed date has been set at this stage beyond “late 2017.”
