Sea of Thieves closed beta extended until Jan 31st

If you were one of the lucky few to get into the Sea of Thieves closed beta this last weekend, you may have noticed the odd server issue preventing you from playing. Bit of a hassle really, and Xbox agrees. The beta, which was originally scheduled to end tonight, has been extended another couple of days to give you one last chance to plunder and pillage the high seas before launch.

Many of the beta’s problems seem to have stemmed from the sheer number of people attempting to play, which is good data for any closed beta like this to have — they are typically sever load stress tests ahead of launch day.

While the Rare team worked across the weekend to rectify connectivity problems and provide hotfixes for known issues, the player base grew more and more restless as the call of the sea became a banshee scream.

All’s well that ends well though, the beta has been extended until 7pm AEST on January 31st as a bit of mea culpa. If you’re not able to jump in before then,  not to worry, you’ll have drop anchor and wait for launch day (or the still-speculative-but-entirely-likely open beta).

Sea of Thieves launches March 20 on Xbox One and Windows PC.
