Australian distributor Sharmill Films has revealed they will be bringing three more films from the Toronto International Film Festival to Australia: Frantz, The Ornithologist, and Heal The Living, will join Lady Macbeth on the Sharmill Films 2017 release slate.
Frantz is the latest film from French director François Ozon. The film is set in the wake of the First World War, and centers around the strange bond that forms between a grieving German widow and a mysterious Frenchman she meets at her fiancé’s grave. This period drama has been a critical success and is another addition to Ozon’s fantastic filmography.
The Ornithologist is the latest film from João Pedro Rodrigues. The film is about an amateur explorer who stumbles into a suspenseful journey of encounter, danger, and lust, on the path towards total enlightenment. The film received the Best Director awards at Locarno (Switzerland) and has been a critical success.
Heal The Living is the third feature film from French director Katell Quillévéré. The film is a tale of a transplant donor and recipient, and the connections between their two worlds. Based on the Booker -nominated novel, Heal The Living has reached critical acclaim and has a fantastic score by Academy Award winning composer Alexandre Desplay (The Grand Budapest Hotel).
Judging by their warm reception with critics, it is no wonder that Sharmill Films decided to acquire these movies. Sharmill Films will be presenting each of these films to Australian audiences in 2017.
