Cloud Imperium Games, the developers behind the highly anticipated, crowded funded space sim Star Citizen, delivered the game’s biggest update yet on the 12th of December.
Scheduled for a full release sometime in 2016, the arrival of the Alpha 2.0 update brings players of Star Citizen the “first true slice” of gameplay experience from the “persistent universe”.
Now available, the major update brings numerous features that will be made available to players for the first time including space combat, FPS mode, and multi-crew ships.
The patch releases a major environ for players to access, the planet Crusader, a gas giant surrounded by three moons and three space stations, which include new transit stations, shipping hubs, comms array and much more. Players will be able to start their journey from the new spaceport called Port Olisar which acts as a spawn point and safe-zone for players where they will be able to test out the new party system.
Other notable features in Alpha 2.0 are:
- EVA (Extra Vehicular Activity) – players can now drift out of the ship’s airlock to venture out into space.
- Three new flyable ships
- New open world missions including 20+ random encounters
featuring combat and exploration of wreckages or abandoned stations.
- Three new flight modes: Precision, SCM and Cruise.
- Large world tech that allows for large expanses of space to be explored without loading screens.
Developers of Star Citizen ensured that this was only the beginning of major updates to come, as Alpha 2.0 would continue to evolve with the plans for expanding features and mechanics. With this update, developers hoped to give players the “first taste” of Star Citizen’s future to come.
