US network AMC have revealed its biggest ever presence at SXSW in Austin, Texas, with a pop-up Los Pollos Hermanos restaurant from Better Call Saul amongst its most prominent activation at the iconic festival. The network also will have presence from their brand new series The Son and returning favourite Preacher – which originally premiered at last year’s SXSW.
This year, the festival will hold the world premiere of The Son, hold a Q&A with Fred Armisen and Bob Odenkirk from Better Call Saul, and a panel for the upcoming second season of Preacher with executive producer Seth Rogen, executive producer and showrunner Sam Catlin and co-executive producer and comic book writer Garth Ennis.
But it’s the first ever Los Pollos Hermanos pop-up restaurant, as featured in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul that has everyone talking – with Gus Fring’s famous curley fries among the promised servings. The restaurant will open tomorrow, March 10th, and run through the weekend, at 122 W. 5th Street, on the NE corner of 5th/Colorado.
“AMC’s presence in Austin for SXSW is a perfect opportunity to connect with AMC fans, bringing them closer to this collection of shows that are all focused on great stories and strong characters, perfectly representing our ‘eclectic by design’ and live+365 programming and fan engagement strategy,” said Linda Schupack, executive vice president of marketing for AMC and SundanceTV, in a statement. “Where else but SXSW would these vastly different, but equally compelling shows blend together so well?”
Separate from the SXSW festival and conference, AMC will host a special book signing, screening, and Q&A in support of “The Son,” which is based on the Phillip Meyer novel of the same name, a Texas family saga that spans 150 years and three generations of the fictional McCulloughs, at the LBJ Presidential Library at the University of Texas at Austin.
