Netflix has hooked up with Sacha Jenkins and several other directors to curate a new eight-part docuseries on hip hop. Premiering around the world at the end of March, Rapture will bring unique perspectives on the personal lives of various well-known and rising stars within the culture, from Nas and T.I to Dave East and Rapsody, with each episode focusing on one or two of these artists and really focusing on different aspects on their careers and stories.
With SXSW Film Festival hosting a special preview of the series, we took the opportunity to catch up with Executive Producer Sacha Jenkins, a man who needs no introduction as far as hip hop goes, since he has been dissecting, analysing and highlighting different aspects of the culture for years, through various documentaries like recent must-watch pieces like Word is Bond and Fresh Dressed. Rapture is a whole new realm for Jenkins, and as he tells us on the red carpet premiere, the series will shed some light into unique artistic value of hip hop and what it can offer, and has offered, the world for decades.
You can watch the full video of our chat with Sacha below, and stay tuned for even more talks with several of the other directors of Rapture in the coming days.
Rapture will premiere on Netflix on the 30th March 2018.
