Australian premiere of Mary Queen of Scots to launch 2019 season of St. George Open Cinema

In a royally exciting announcement, St. George Open Cinema has revealed that its 2019 season will be opening with the Australian premiere of Mary Queen of Scots. The film, which will be released in cinemas nationwide from 17th January 2019, will star Academy Award nominees Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street, Suicide Squad, I, Tonya) and Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones, The Host, Lady Bird) as two historical figures stuck in a gripping story of power and gender in the 15th Century.

Mary Queen of Scots is based on true story of Mary Stuart, who reigned over Scotland as Queen from 1542 to 1567 before her execution. It centres around the conflict between queens Mary Stuart and Elizabeth, and their countries; a tale of female rivalry in male dominated worlds.

As well as Mary Queen of Scots, the 2019 season will also feature an array of film premieres and preview screenings, including a selection of this summer’s most anticipated releases and 2018’s box office hits: First Man, A Star is Born, Bohemian Rhapsody, Ladies in Black, Crazy Rich Asians, A Simple Favour, The Front Runner and the Sydney premiere of Storm Boy.

The opening season event will be held at Mrs Macquaries Point in Sydney, which is adjacent to Royal Botanic Gardens, from January 8 to February 16. Films will commence shortly after nightfall (approx. 8:40-8:45pm).
