Making the announcement yesterday, both Australian Writer’s Guild (AWG) and Scripted Ink. will be receiving an enterprise funding from Screen Australia to put towards their screenwriting development initiative, The Writer’s Room Project. This initiative will give support for the new generation of experienced Australian showrunners, script producers and script editors.
Up to 20 experienced and emerging writers will be selected by Scripted Ink. from AWG’s Pathways Program to participate in a series of writers’ rooms. The writers will be given valuable experience in order to write fresh and engaging Australian drama content.
Executive Director of AWG, Jacqueline Elaine has said that The Writer’s Room Project is essential for the development of high-quality Australian television.
She adds, “By allowing talented Australian screenwriters to spend time devising content in a real writers’ room setting,The Writers’ Room Project will not only develop a new generation of Australian showrunners, but also has the potential to showcase Australian writers to the world.”
Scripted Ink. Head of Development, Tim Pye mentions that The Writer’s Room Project “creates opportunities for Australian screenwriters” adding that the partnerships between AWG, Screen Australia and Scripted Ink. have helped “ensure Australian writers and their projects are given the best possible chance for development and market attachment.”
