Ava DuVernay to direct film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time

Director of Selma, Ava DuVernary will be directing Disney’s A Wrinkle in Time movie adaptation.

Co-director and writer of Frozen, Jennifer Lee will be writing the screenplay for the Madeleine L’Engle’s book for Disney. The story follows children travelling through time, visiting strange worlds in hopes to finding their missing scientist father.

Lee was very fond of the book, revealing that it’s one of her favourite novels she read during her childhood. The executives of Disney were very impressed on Lee’s take to the film project because of the strong female-driven narrative and and its creative approach to the science-fiction and world-building parts to the book.

Steven Spielberg‘s Amblin Partners have strongly considered DuVernay as a candidate to direct the science-fiction thriller Intelligent Life with Lupita Nyoung to star in the cast. Director of Jurassic World, Colin Trevorrow and collaborator Derek Connolly wrote script for Intelligent Life. The film is based on an earlier project titled The Ambassador which focused on a U.N worker representing the human race in the event of alien contact.
