Cannes acclaimed film Hell of High Water starring Star Trek‘s Chris Pine gets a trailer

Following its acclaimed appearance at Cannes, as part of the Un Certain Regard section, the film Hell or High Water was picked up by Madman Entertainment for Australian distribution – which is expected later in the year. And today they’re teasing this release with the first trailer for the film.

The film comes from the writer of the Oscar nominated Sicario, and is an action-thriller that stars Chris Pine (Star Trek franchise), Ben Foster (3:10 to Yuma) and Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges (True Grit). It’s been helmed by British director David Mackenzie (who brought us the similarly acclaimed but relatively unknown Starred Up), while Nick Cave and Warren Ellis are delivering the score.

Here’s a bit more about the film, via the official synopsis:

After years of estrangement, Texan brothers Toby (Chris Pine) and Tanner (Ben Foster) decide to rob the branches of the bank threatening to foreclose on their family land. For them, the hold-ups are part of a last-ditch scheme to take back a future that was stolen from under them. Vengeance seems to be theirs until they find themselves on the radar of Marcus (Jeff Bridges), a Ranger looking for one last grand pursuit on the eve of his retirement, and his partner Alberto (Gil Birmingham). As the brothers plot a final bank heist to complete their scheme, and with the Rangers on their heels, a murderous showdown looms.
