Composer Hans Zimmer has announced his retirement from superhero films

Hans Zimmer, puller of violin and heart strings alike has announced his retirement from “the superhero business”.

Following his most recent work on  Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Zimmer sat down with the BBC to discuss his decision to retire from composing music for superhero films.

“This one was very hard for me to do, to try to find new language” he said of the Ben Affleck and Henry Cavil blockbuster.

While he doesn’t agree that the superhero film is dying out, he sights the difficulty of finding a “fresh” approach to the well-trodden genre as one his reasons for backing down.

A multi award-winning composer and arguably a household name, Zimmer’s iconic discography includes work for over 150 films over a vast array of genres, including The Lion King, Inception, The Holiday, Pirates of the Carribean and Interstellar.
