It was reported exclusively this week by Variety, that, according to sources, the iconic DC character Cyborg will make an appearance in the standalone The Flash movie, due for release in 2018. The inclusion in the film – alongside the character’s appearance in next year’s Justice League – is expected to line things up for the character to get his own standalone film in 2020.
Behind the character is actor Ray Fisher, best known for his stage work. We’ve already seen him as Cyborg and his alter-ego Victor Stone in a Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cameo, which set things up for Justice League.
This continues DC Comics and Warner Bros’ move towards creating a cinematic universe of their own that competes with the highly successful Marvel Cinematic Universe. Considering how much critics have panned both Batman v. Superman and Suicide Squad, it’s been a bit of a mixed experience so far. But it hasn’t stopped dedicated fans from boosting box-office ticket sales. Still, Marvel leads on box-office receipts – as they do critical response.
If you don’t know the character, Cyborg has metallic prosthetic limbs which give him superhuman abilities, following a science experiment that turned him into a human-machine hybrid.
As for The Flash, this 2018 release stars Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as the title character and it will be directed by Rick Famuyiwa who delivered us the highly acclaimed indie film Dope – which we gave FIVE STARS back in 2014. The Flash begins shooting this year in London. You’ll also see the character in Justice League next year.
