Games Review: Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris (PS4, 2017): A pile of weird decisions

There’s almost no reason for you to play Destiny 2‘s first expansion, Curse of Osiris. I’ve tried to find a nicer way to frame the expansion’s futile attempts at justifying its own existence but there’s no getting around it. In a game as massive as Destiny 2, especially one that is designed to keep players coming back, Curse of Osiris feels like scraps thrown to a starving crowd. Video Games Review: Destiny 2 (PS4, 2017) files down many of the original’s rougher edges

Destiny was the first game I reviewed for this site, back when the games section was still called VideAU Games, an offshoot of The Iris parent site, The AU Review. On launch, it was an ambitious but deeply flawed experiment in the MMO space, hyped beyond almost any other game in recent memory. It weathered two major expansions, The Dark Below and House of Wolves, before finally finding a groove in its third, The Taken King. A fourth and final expansion, Rise of Iron, brought Destiny‘s two year run to a close. And now Bungie returns to their newest sci fi universe, their first new IP since leaving their renowned Halo series in Microsoft’s hands. Destiny 2 repeats a lot of its predecessor’s mistakes, but it also files down many of that game’s rougher edges, creating something that is at once extremely easy to play but doesn’t feel like it carries much in the way of long-term satisfaction just yet. Blizzard unable to make up mind, renames Battle.net launcher again

You might remember a story we brought you last year about Blizzard Entertainment retiring the long-standing Battle.net name it used for its program launcher in favour of the more generic name, Blizzard Launcher. The story changed earlier this year when the Activision half of the Activision-Blizzard family declared it would be bringing the Destiny 2 beta “to Battle.net.” So was the name dead? Was Battle.net back? No-one seemed to know. Until today, when it seems Blizzard finally decided that Battle.net’s okay after all, officially renaming the app Blizzard Battle.net.
